As we wrapped up 2016, we had a chance to stop and look at the numbers and realized that, with the help of our partners, we have been able to help nearly 10,000 Nevadans into homes of their own through our Home Is Possible program. To be precise, the actual number is 9,654 between when we started the program September 22, 2014 through December 31, 2016.
We are happy to have served so many first-time homebuyers (haven’t owned a home in more than three years), boomerang buyers (those who may have lost their home through foreclosure or short sale during the recession and are ready to buy again) and veterans.
That 9,654 number includes 568 veterans and active military personnel, nearly 30 a month (up from 18 a month in 2015).
Yes, we’re geeks and we love stats. These make us very happy, as they show that we’re accomplishing what our agency was created to do in 1975: to solve a shortage of safe and decent housing for individuals and families of low and moderate income.
But on a personal level, it’s been incredibly gratifying to know that we have been able to help so many hard-working Nevada families experience the joys (and responsibilities) of homeownership. And we know there are plenty more of you out there — families that can afford a monthly mortgage payment but who may be struggling to come up with a down payment and/or closing costs.
If you have a household income of less than $95,500, have a minimum credit score of 640 and are interested in purchasing a home for less than $400,000, please reach out to one of our HIP-qualified lenders to find out if you’re eligible for non-payable down payment money of up to five percent of your home loan.
If you’re a teacher or a veteran, we have special programs just for you. Be sure to check them out!
Even if you don’t think you’ll be ready to buy for a few months or even years, it makes sense for you to meet with a lender now to find out what you need to do to get ready. We would love to add your family to our book of ever-growing success stories!
